Summing up Sunday

Monday, January 26th, 2009

We had two more wonderful services on Sunday. We had 2 or three ladies make professions of faith in the morning service! There were 104 people in attendance. It’s great to see people inviting others and to see that word gets out that we are serious about helping people at Madiba Bay.

We are asking for prayer as we are thinking of changing the times of our afternoon service to where we actually combine the morning and evening services. The reason being that we have several people that come from far and it just doesn’t make sense to do something traditionally when it makes absolutely no sense where you are. These people pay alot of money and the church helps some with taxi fare besides the fact that they are stuck staying near the church between services while everyone else goes home to eat and rest. We are just asking for prayer that we would choose the best way to combine the services. Thanks

Fun Day at Madiba Bay

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

We invited Missionary Ken Westenberger to come and preach and do his ventriloquism act at our church today. It was good time for all as we enjoyed a good Bible message and some humor along the way.

Some Highlights of the Day:
1. 2 Children made professions of faith
2. We had our highest attendance thus far with 147 people in attendance, though probably 90-100 of that was children we still praise the Lord for the great day!!!

Tonight we focused on hearing God’s voice. Learning to listen to him and discern His leading day to day and decision by decision. Our desire is for our church family to be attentive to God every moment of their lives. That is a real challenge for all of us.

Preachers Fellowship

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Last night was a first for our church. On top of the T.E.L.L. meetings we hold for local preachers. We have started a fellowship within our church to better equip lay preachers and future pastors. We simply get together for 1hr 30min on Friday nights. Last night was the first meeting and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What happens?
I bring all the resources I can for the guys to use and unfortunately that is not much - seeing I don’t have the greatest library in the world and many struggle with English.
-At the same time it is awesome to see God help them understand the scriptures and be alongside of them to help point them in the right direction.
A side note - I don’t believe you can put a price on sound doctrine but sometimes we indoctrinate people to the point where the Holy Spirit doesn’t have a voice.

Outcome:
It was awesome! We went over on study time and then also went over on preaching time. Sipho preached on the Second Coming. His title was “Jesus is coming Again, So What?” and he gave a few responsibilities we have because of the fact that Christ is coming again.

A new convert, Charlie, who was a special blessing. Stood and told us his testimony and gave a couple of thoughts out of Genesis. Lubabalo, Mzikayise, and Dewald also preached. They all did a fantastic job preaching God’s Word. I was extremely proud of what God has done in their lives.

Next Time:
We look forward to hearing from a couple of other guys next meeting which will be held next Friday night. Babalo will get a chance to preach alongside of Khanyisa.

Starting Over

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Every year at Christmas time South Africa goes on vacation. For the entire month of December and much of January the church is empty. Whether or not the people have money to go on an elite vacation or simply go to the Transkei to visit relatives, they will go somewhere. It was a beautiful site on Sunday to see people back in their place in the body that makes up Madiba Bay Baptist church. We have some of the sweetest people in the entire world.

The fam and I just got back from Cape Town ourselves. We had to take care of getting Hudson’s U.S. birth certificate and obviously enjoyed some of the wonderful things Cape Town has to offer. But on our return we found the church building looking beautiful as one of our talented sisters in Christ took the initiative to redecorate the auditorium. It is awesome to see people use their gifts and abilities for the Lord. You may say but I don’t preach. I don’t sing. Well, what do you do? and when you answer that question figure out a way to use what you do do for the Lord. You are a member of a body. Don’t cause the rest of the body to suffer and struggle because you as the thumb, or ankle won’t do what you were designed by God to do.
